/ international Climate Adaptation Design (iCAD) Ideas Competition 2014 / hosted by Chinese Culture University (CCU), Taiwan

Aim

Climate change is one of the most important and complex environmental issues encountered by humankind this century. This competition aims to explore adaptive built environment design ideas for coastal community Wangliao of Taiwan faced with storm surge in a changing climate. It is noted that increasing occurrence of storm surge will cause higher possibility and duration of inundation, and aggravate coastal erosion as illustrated by the Adaptation Strategy to Climate Change in Taiwan.

The jury underlines technical potential for future development and the introduction of new ideas form the architectural and product development perspective, it is just as much about developing strategies that could be applied to low-lying coastal communities elsewhere. It is also thought that a ideas competition would be the best way to bring innovative thinking on climate adaptation from different aspects of climate change and past experience of a familiar climate; here is 'climate' described as weather average over 30 years.
